Motorcycle Mobile Phone Holder

Motorcycle Mobile Phone Holder

Aluminum Alloy Mobile Phone Holder

Let me introduce you to a product that I wholeheartedly trust and use on all of my motorcycles.

It’s known as an Aluminum Alloy Mobile Phone Holder. I purchased the one branded by Brolaviya. The reason I mentioned the brand name separately is so that the focus remains on the accessory and not the brand. This product is offered by other sellers and brands at various prices. My review and feedback is solely about the accessory.

This aluminum alloy mobile phone holder is sturdy, strongly built, and extremely industrial. It is made to do one thing and one thing only; mount itself hard and hold your phone securely. Once you slide your phone and screw the claw, you are ready to enjoy your ride!

Let’s check it out in detail.

Dimensions/ Specifications

Inner diameter of the pole bracket with the packing. To help you decide whether this will mount on the handle OR you’ll have to buy an additional attachment.

Completely close = 19 mm
Completely open = 38 mm

Inner diameter of the pole bracket without packing. I do not recommend, directly mounting the metal pole bracket to the handle as it will scratch your handle and there will be no cushion at the mount point. If you do not want to use the provided packing, at least insert a piece of rubber from an old tire tube for a cushion.

Completely close = 24 mm
Completely open = 38 mm

Width of the bracket completely closed versus open wide apart. This is to determine which phone will fit and whether the phone will fit with or without a phone cover.

Completely close = 67 mm
Completely open = 97 mm

Assembling

Phone holder with mobile

The mobile phone that I’m using here is my personal Samsung M33. The Samsung M33 is 10 mm thick, 165 mm long (tall) and 65 mm wide.

The mobile phone holder is capable of holding mobile phones that are between the thickness of 15 mm to 18 mm.

Below are the pictures with a video demonstration of how the mobile phone holder looks with the phone in it.

Installation

Installation is pretty straightforward. Locate the area where you want to mount this > Install the pole bracket first > Set the angle > Bolt on the mobile phone holder bracket. Slip in your phone > Tighten the screw > Check the stability. You’re all set!

Getting ready

Let’s unscrew all major parts and get it ready for installation.

Mockup

Before actually installing, mock up the space, the angel, and the position of the bracket.
As discussed earlier, this bracket can be installed vertically and horizontally.
This would be a good time to measure the distance between any other accessories that you’ve mounted, around.

Installing the pole bracket

After determining the position and distance of where you’re going to be mounting the bracket, begin wrenching.
For this installation, I’m not using any special tools. I’m using the ones that are provided with the purchase.

Installing the phone bracket

Once the pole bracket is installed, installing the phone bracket is a piece of cake. Definitely, you want to make sure you are screwing it in the correct position. In my case, I’ve decided to mount this vertically.
This will also help me with using navigation.

Finally done!

Slip your phone in and screw it down securely. You’re done!

Any downsides?

Compared to a lot of phone mounts that I have used in the past, I found this one to be an excellent purchase. However, we have to understand that nothing is perfect. While this mount holds your phone with full confidence at high speeds and through bumpy roads, it just has a couple of flaws.

The only major downside that I’ve experienced with the phone mount, is when you actually do not have a phone mounted to it. I’ll elaborate. The mobile phone holder is the best when you have your phone in it and the screw tightened. When the mobile phone holder is not holding your phone and is empty, that is when the problem arises. While riding due to the natural vibrations of the motorcycle (normal engine and riding vibrations), the phone mount bracket unscrews itself. And after a while, it’ll unscrew itself all the way.

The second downside is color fades when exposed to the sun. However this occurs after many years. The color of the mount does not fade away in a matter of months. If you have the bike always under the sun, and if you’ve had this mount for a very long time, then yes, you’ll notice that the color has faded. Mine turned brown from black and that is about it.

Is there a solution to prevent the phone holder bracket from unscrewing itself? Yes! surprisingly, there are a couple that I can suggest, one being the most obvious.

The first solution is to simply screw the bracket all the way shut-close. The times when you’re not mounting your phone on the mobile phone holder, ensure you’ve screwed the bracket tight shut. Simple.
What I’ve observed is that, with or without the phone in the bracket, when you screw it tight, it does not undo/ unscrew itself.
Therefore, when you have the phone in the bracket and screwed tight, you’re good. When you don’t have the phone in the bracket, screw it shut tight, you’re done. Easy.

The second solution is to make use of a zip tie.
This will require you to measure the width of the mobile, with OR without the mobile case, leave some extra space, and insert the zip tie.
I’ve attached a video demonstrating the solution OR some might call it a hack.

My verdict

I like it. It suits what I was looking for. Below are the points that I had in mind while I was searching for a motorcycle mobile mount:

  • Needs to be sturdy
  • Needs to hold the phone from the side and bottom
  • Not have springs – should have bolts and screws
  • Should have only one fix position – either horizontal OR vertical
  • Should be able to fit the bar
  • Should be below ₹1000
  • Does not need to have a charging point OR wireless charger

If the above are your criteria while looking for a mobile mount, and if the dimensions fit your bar, then look no further and go for it.

In addition to the above, after using the mount for more than 2 years and still running, I’ve not experienced rust issues or device malfunctions. The phone bracket is still holding strong. None of the screws are rusted, jammed or malfunctioning.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this very specific mobile phone holder is the best!

Once again, as I mentioned at the very beginning of this post, the brand does not matter as this same item is sold under various different brand names. As far as the item looks and has the same dimensions, they all function the same.

I’m happy with the packaging, the quick time it took for delivery, and the industrious build and functionality.
